I meet a lot of people who’ve had to downsize their businesses (or have been downsized themselves)

who talked about how their industries are changing (in a bad way) because of greater regulations or technology making their biz irrelevant.

I feel very lucky to have landed with a company that’s enjoying expansion & market growth and using technology to propel us into even greater success. Some of the latest exciting news?

Rodan + Fields has outgrown its current headquarters, and I can’t wait to see our swanky new building near the Embarcadero. This growth is fueled by the all of us who are building businesses of our own around the country. Image

Because of our success and the expertise and efforts of our Corporate Team, we’re now ranked in the top 100 GLOBAL direct sales companies, yet we haven’t event expanded beyond the US.

What an exciting time to be a part of this company. I’m honored to share in its success and help others do the very same.   Message me to learn how you or someone you know can take part in this amazing opportunity with this phenomenal company.

Of course everyone ages, but the way in which your skin ages is very much under your control. Here are 4 lifestyle changes you can start to make right now:

1. Get your beauty sleep…on your back. Over time, a nightly face plant into your pillow will cause those pillow creases to become permanently etched into your skin. Train yourself to get off your side and sleep on your back.
2. No smoking, or quit if you do. It makes you look a decade older than you actually are. Smoking breaks down collagen, impairs wound healing and restricts blood vessels, resulting in sagging, sallow and course skin.
3. Don’t drink from a straw. The puckering associated with drinking from a straw has been observed to increase wrinkling around the lips.
4. Keep those eyes covered. Sunglasses are a must, everyday, no matter how cloudy it is.

Why Is Exfoliation So Important To Your Skin?

radiant skin

Your skin’s job is to protect you day and night from the elements of the outside world, and that means it can take a heavy beating from time to time. There’s actually a lot that goes into keeping your skin healthy, and part of the process involves the constant regeneration of cells. You might not be aware of it, but your body produces new skin cells nonstop around the clock. It has to because an average adult can shed up to 50,000 dead skin cells every minute. It’s an important process, but sometimes cells don’t slough off as well as they should, so they can end up clogging pores, which leads to breakouts. You can do your part to help facilitate the shedding of dead skin cells by exfoliating on a regular basis.

What Is Skin Exfoliation?

Exfoliation is defined as the removal of surface dry skin cells.

How Do I Know If I Need To Exfoliate?

A simple test you can do at home to see if you have surface dry skin cells on your skin is to take a piece of clear tape and apply it to the forehead. Rub it gently and remove. Look at the tape, and if there are little pieces of flaky skin, then you need to exfoliate!

What Skin Care Problems Does Exfoliation Resolve?

unblemish bna

Blemished Skin

Exfoliation should be the main focus of a homecare program. So often, we are told to dry out the skin with harsh acne products. Although this will destroy acne-causing bacteria, it tends to dry out the skin, and this usually results in not only irritated skin but also in future breakouts. Why? Because as you over-dry the skin, you create surface dry skin cell buildup. This then acts as a barrier to trap oil in the skin, thereby starting a cycle of new breakouts. One of the best acne prevention regimens is our Unblemish Regimen with Clarifying Toner. This is a photo says it all!

Post-breakout red/dark marks

Often, the real concern is not so much the actual blemishes, but rather the red, dark marks that remain on the skin long after the breakout has healed. The key to fading those post-breakout marks is to exfoliate in combination with a good skin care regimen like our Unblemish Regimen with Spot Fading Toner. The more you remove the surface damaged skin tissue, the more you are ridding the skin of the dark marks and encouraging the formation of new healthy (non-scarred) skin tissue. The result is more even-toned skin with less scarring.

Clogged Pores

Clogged pores aren’t infected blemishes, but rather blackheads, small whiteheads, and little clogged bumps on the skin, often on the forehead. The same rules apply as with blemished skins. The more you remove surface dry skin cells (usually caused by using harsh, drying products), the less oil will stay trapped and congested in the pores.

b4 after

These are the brown spots that come from age, pregnancy, hormonal changes, sun-damage and genetics. These spots tend to become more apparent and darken as the skin ages. Exfoliation is beneficial for breaking up the pigmented cells to allow them to fade. Combined with a skin care regimen such as our Reverse Regimen which contains 2% hydroquinone in the toner and 2% hydroquinone in the cream, you are able to reverse these signs of aging. Hydroquinone is the only lightening agent on the market approved by the FDA. Did you know, any product that contains over 2% hydroquinone needs a prescription? By putting 2% in 2 products, the toner and the cream, the Doctors are able to give you prescription strength medicines without having to obtain a prescription.

Dry Skin

Especially in the winter, exfoliation is very important. So often when the skin is dry, we tend to load up on heavier creams to compensate for the dryness. But dry skin means you have dry skin cell buildup. And the more you layer on the heavier creams, the more you are trying to re-hydrate dry skin cells, which makes no sense! Instead, increase your exfoliation to remove the dry skin cells, and then moisturize the new skin cells with the Soothe Moisturizer. This Moisturizer is fantastic for winter’s skin.

Aging Skin

The skin’s natural exfoliation process slows as the skin ages, resulting in an accumulation of dry skin cells. As you increase your exfoliation, you are tricking the skin into acting young again. You can combine this with the Redefine Regimen. This regimen uses Peptide Technology. Peptides are amino acids that encourage your body’s ability to create collagen! Which helps eradicate fine lines and wrinkles and improves skins texture!

How Often Should One Exfoliate?

Exfoliation is a simple process that removes dead skin cells from the surface of your body. There are several ways to exfoliate. Microdermabrasion, chemical peels, over the counter exfoliants, or at home microdermabrasion kits. The frequency of your exfoliation will depend on the method that you choose.
Face washes can be used daily, where as microdermabrasion from your esthetician should be done every 4-6 weeks. If you choose to have a chemical peel, then you will be advised directly as to when you can repeat the process.
The thing to keep in mind is the goal of exfoliation. It should leave your skin feeling softer and looking healthier — not red and irritated. If you over-exfoliate, you could end up doing more harm than good.

Did You Know?

At age 30, your skin cells go dormant, become lazy, and slow down cellular turnover and activity. Basically, your skin ages considerably earlier than the rest of your body.

If you want to fight aging, fight hard. Beginning around the age 30, be sure to use a skincare product that activates and stimulates your skin cells so that your skin cells regenerate, produce collagen, and maintain a youthful appearance.

After the age of 30??? Don’t give up!!! you can actually turn back the hands of time with the right amount of medicine in the right order.

Your prescription for change is just one click away!!

Bubbles AREN’T Better!

One Cleanser Does NOT Fit All
” As teenagers battling oily skin we are trained to believe that the more bubbles the deeper the clean. Unfortunately, this is a dangerous myth. Bubbles don’t equal clean. Think of your dishwasher, there are no bubbles involved in the process but your dishes always come out clean. Suds strip the delicate lipid barrier that helps hold in moisture and shield against environmental assault. Removing it with suds opens the skin to water loss and bacteria and toxins that can irritate the skin.

So what is the right cleanser for you? Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered. Rodan + Fields formulates the right cleanser for each skin issue. Each is different and works in a different way.

2 examples;
ANTI-AGE—includes gentle kaolin and bentinite clay polishes off dry skin and smal gains containing Dimethicone –a skin protection ingredient bursts open to layer over the skin’s surface to help repair the barrier.
SOOTHE–Gently dissolves and sweeps away makeup and other impurities. Surfactant (soap) and fragrance-free creamy formulation that supports skin’s resiliency with barrier-nurturing ceramides” ~ Mary Radford, RN ~ Rodan and Fields Dermatologist

With Rodan and Fields, you’re using the right ingredients in the right formulation for your skin issue. One cleanser does not fit all. Follow this link and get your personal Prescription for Change ♥ https://totallyamazingskin.myrandf.com/Pages/OurProducts/GetAdvice/SolutionsTool

What Working Moms Can Learn About Finding Balance in Life From Julia Braverman-Graham

Do you feel like your life spinning out of control?  Join the club!

Are your days so full of “things to do” you can’t see straight by the time the sun sets? Do you long for just a little more time to spend with your family and on yourself without the constant feeling that you’re rushing from obligation to obligation?

If so, you’re not alone…and there’s hope! Read on…

I’m not a huge TV watcher, but I admit to a couple guilty pleasures.

One of them is NBC’s nighttime hit “Parenthood.” (Not to be confused with the feature film of the same name, although who can forget Steve Martin mistaking Diane Weist’s vibrator for a flashlight in a blackout?).  I love this show because I totally relate to the characters who, like many of us, struggle with maintaining sanity while constantly juggling kids, work and aging parents.

In a recent episode, the main character, Julia Braverman-Graham, reached her breaking point. As an associate at a law firm working a gazillion billable hours, a mom of two, a wife and a devoted sister and daughter, she’s got one very full plate.

And like many of us, one day she hit her breaking point. Julia started to feel the weight of all her responsibilities, and the juggling act became increasingly difficult. It was becoming impossible for her to do it all, without someone being disappointed or something falling through the cracks. (Does any of this sound familiar?)

She was missing her kids’ important activities, and she was too exhausted at the end of the day to have anything left over for her husband, let alone herself. The breaking point was when she missed a critical work deadline because she was also trying to be an attentive mom.

It’s no wonder Julia darn near fainted in her kitchen one day trying to get her bickering kids ready for school and herself to work. The balls came crashing down, resulting in her crying “uncle” when she told her partners that she quit.

How many of us have felt that we’re losing the juggling battle and unable to live the life that we wanted? For those of us who have been there or are there, Julia provides two important lessons.

First, it’s not our fault. As Anne-Marie Slaughter wrote in her now-famous article in The Atlantic about balancing work and family, most women can’t figure out how to combine professional success and satisfaction with a real commitment to family, unless they’re superwomen. It’s not our shortcomings or inability to find the suit with the cape, it’s that the traditional box most women workers are stuck in involves inflexible schedules and career tracks.

Second, and more immediately fixable, is not to let things go until the breaking point. We women need to stop gritting our teeth and trying to barrel through like Julia did, fooling ourselves that it will somehow get better, easier. Instead, we need to get proactive about our options before we find ourselves a huddled mess on the kitchen floor.

Here’s a simple 3-step plan that will help you get your sanity back, and your life on track for what you want.

Step One – Take Stock

If you want things to change, it’s important to take an honest assessment of what’s going on in your life. Especially what’s not working.

Step Two – Clear the Decks

Do whatever you can to free up time. Get out of all the things you’ve overcommitted to that aren’t really what you want to be doing.

I’ve seen with myself and the women I work with that eliminating everything in your schedule that isn’t absolutely necessary or leading you closer to your ultimate goal (like watching TV or spearheading the book fair at your child’s school), creates little pockets of time every week that will allow you to figure out what it is you do want and then to make it happen.

Remember, to say “yes” to the life you want, you have to learn to say “no.”

Step Three – Start a Plan B

So many of us make the mistake of waiting until “some day” to have the life we want. I challenge you to start taking action now because the truth is, by taking small steps now, we can be in a very different place a year from now.

Women have more options than we think we do. We just need to allow ourselves the opportunity to dream again.

Is it time for a career change? Have you ever thought about starting a business around something you love? Do you want to travel more? Do you want to get more involved in your community?

I did these three steps to move my life from a place that was stressed and unfulfilling to a life I now love. I have a manageable work schedule that I dictate, time to be there for my kids and my husband and time for myself. And over time I’ve been able to add more hobbies and volunteer activities to the mix, without jacking up my stress level.

And through the work I do today, I also get to help other women create lives they love. So I want you to know, it is possible.

But it requires discipline and a huge reason for wanting to make things change. Just like having a baby, there’s rarely a perfect time to redesign your professional life to fit in around the rest of your life. So start now, before YOU reach your breaking point.
